A tidy home without the effort

Home and apartment cleaning

Between work, school and family visits, many households don’t have time to clean the way they’d like. Home and apartment cleaning is a general service that keeps the home clean and tidy — rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, floors and surfaces — once before an occasion, or with regular visits every week, fortnight or month.

The difference from deep cleaning is that it’s lighter and quicker and focuses on what’s used every day, not on what has built up in hard-to-reach places. With SaudiCleaning you give your home type, number of rooms and how often you want cleaning, and your request reaches cleaning companies in your city who contact you with offers.

What general cleaning usually includes

  • Rooms and majlis

Dusting surfaces, furniture and lights, a light tidy, vacuuming carpets and wiping mirrors.

  • Kitchen

Worktops and the cooker outside, the sink, cupboard fronts, appliance exteriors and the kitchen floor.

  • Bathrooms

Toilets, basins, showers, mirrors and visible tiles, sanitising the most-used surfaces.

  • Floors

Sweeping and mopping floors throughout, and cleaning visible corners.

  • Inside glass

Glass and glass doors from the inside, if you ask.

  • Rubbish

Collecting rubbish from rooms and the kitchen and putting it in the right place.

What general cleaning doesn’t include

General cleaning doesn’t usually cover jobs that need extra time or equipment: inside cupboards, the fridge and oven, behind heavy appliances, old limescale in bathrooms, dirty grout, sofa and carpet cleaning, and outside windows. These are part of deep cleaning or separate services.

It also doesn’t include laundry and ironing, cooking or childcare — that isn’t cleaning companies’ work. If you’re looking for an hourly domestic cleaner, book only through licensed companies and platforms. Read about hourly cleaning services.

It helps to agree a clear list with the company in advance of what is cleaned at each visit, so your expectations match what actually happens.

How a visit works, and how long it takes

The team arrives at the agreed time and usually starts with the kitchen and bathrooms, which take longest, then the rooms, and floors last. On regular visits the team gets to know the home over time, so the work becomes quicker and more precise.

How long it takes depends on the size, the number of rooms and bathrooms and the number of workers. A small flat can be done in a few hours by two workers; a large house needs longer or a bigger team. Agree the hours or the task list with the company — some price per visit, others per hour.

If you choose regular visits, ask whether the team and time stay the same, and what happens if a worker is absent or you want to change the time.

Choosing the right frequency depends on household size and lifestyle. A home with young children, one that hosts many guests, or one in a dusty district usually benefits from a weekly or fortnightly visit; a small flat for one or two people may be fine with a monthly visit plus light daily tidying. Try a frequency for a month or two and adjust it based on what you notice — regular visits stop dirt building up and make each visit quicker.

How to prepare

  • Tidy away loose items a little, so the team can focus on cleaning rather than tidying.
  • Put valuables somewhere safe.
  • Say which rooms are included and your priorities if time is limited.
  • Mention delicate surfaces such as natural marble and wood, and products you prefer or avoid.
  • Keep pets away from the work areas.
  • For regular visits, leave the team a short note of what to focus on this time.

Products, equipment and team

Many companies bring their own products and equipment; some assume the customer provides the products. That’s why the form asks about it — confirm it in the offer. If there’s a baby or someone sensitive to smells at home, ask for gentle, low-fragrance products.

You can ask for a female or male team as suits your household. A safety reminder: never mix cleaning products, especially bleach with other cleaners; keep products away from children; and ventilate while cleaning.

Questions to ask the company

  • What exactly is on the task list for each visit?
  • Is it priced per visit or per hour, and how many workers will come?
  • Do you bring products and equipment?
  • Is the team the same on regular visits, and what happens if someone is absent?
  • Are the workers your employees with valid documents?
  • Can a visit be cancelled or moved, and on what terms?

What drives the price?

  • The size of the home and the number of rooms and bathrooms.
  • The number of workers and hours.
  • Frequency: one-time, weekly or monthly.
  • Whether products are supplied by the company or by you.
  • Extras such as glass and balconies.
